USD 17.6B plan devised to rebuild Puerto Rico's electric power grid
2018-1-22
USA, New York: Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and Governor Ricardo Rosselló announced a new plan to rebuild and transform Puerto Rico's electric power system, which was severely damaged by Hurricane Maria in September.
An impressive list of utilities and groups have developed a $17.6 billion plan to rebuild Puerto Rico's electric distribution system, which will focus on resilience to withstand future storms and the inclusion of modern grid technologies and control systems, reports Utility Dive.
The plan recommends that $1.6 billion be allocated to the construction of new 38 kV, 115 kV and 230 kV substations.
The proposed rebuild would feature increased renewable generation and new distributed energy resource technologies like energy storage and microgrids. The plan would also reduce dependency on fossil fuels and make energy more affordable and sustainable for the island.
