South African wind farms receive main transformers

2017-1-9

South Africa: Two wind farms currently under construction in the Northern Cape, Khobab Wind Farm and Loeriesfontein Wind Farm, have both received their main transformers.

The 160 MVA transformers will be housed in the substations and be “responsible for increasing the voltage from 33 kV to 132 KV, which is the voltage required to transfer power to Eskom’s national grid,” project manager of Khobab Wind Farm, Kevin Foster, explained.

The Loeriesfontein and Khobab Wind Farms are expected to be operational by December 2017.
