European Commission to support Africa with $5B energy projects
2017-5-17
The European Commission will continue to support Africa by promoting renewables through the Africa Renewable Energy Initiative, as it announced the preparation of 19 new renewable energy projects in Africa, with a total potential investment of €4.8 billion ($5 billion).
These sustainable energy projects will add 1.8 GW of new renewable energy generation in Africa, reports ESI-Africa.
The investment will contribute to the European Commission's aim for 2020: to give 30 million more people access to sustainable energy, to save 11 million tonnes of carbon dioxide annually, and to help generate 5 GW of new renewable energy in Africa.
