Contract awarded for 40 transformers for Walney offshore farm

 United Kingdom: ABB has won a contract to supply transformers for the 8.25 MW turbines at Dong Energy's 330 MW Walney 3 East offshore wind farm off Cambria, England.

The manufacturer will provide 40 transformer units of the capacity of 9.7 MVA specially designed to fit inside the door frame of the MHI Vestas turbines, reports Power Engineering International.

The transformers will weigh around 30% less than a similar standard transformer, the source cites.

Work at the Walney 3 complex is due to commence in 2017.
