$80M transmission grid upgrade project to start in Virginia

USA, Virginia: The Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC) has approved Appalachian Power's request for $80 million improvements to its transmission grid in southwest Virginia.

Appalachian Power will build a new substation, with power transformers and associated electrical equipment in Bland County, along with newtransmission lines in order to support local distribution of power, reports WVVA.

The Bland Area Improvements Project is the $80 million investment which will run from the South Bluefield substation in Mercer County to the Progress Park substation near Wytheville, Virginia.

The construction should start later this year.
