Truck hauling a transformer overtuned in Charleston
2015-8-27
USA, West Virginia: The tractor-trailer hauling an American Electric Power (AEP) transformer overturned on the Oakwood Road entrance ramp in Charleston Monday, causing a spill of transformer oil and a shutdown of both the entrance and exit ramps in the busy area between I-64 and U.S. 119 roads for the entire day.
Officials said it was not clear what caused the accident, but it is possible that the transformer the truck was hauling shifted making the truck roll over, reports WSAZ.
The rig and its load were estimated to weigh 60 tons.
190 litres of transformer oil leaked onto the road, according to West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, and the spill has been cleaned up.
The tractor-trailer, owned by Bricker Transport of Laredo, Texas, was moving the transformer from St. Louis to New York.
