GE delivers two power transformers to Hamburg Mitte Substation

2016-12-18

Germany, Hamburg: GE Energy Connections has delivered two power transformers to the German distribution network operator Stromnetz Hamburg GmbH, as part of the modernization of Hamburg city centre substation Hamburg Mitte, considered the heart of the downtown power supply network.

GE was contracted for the delivery, installation and commissioning of two transformers and one gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) earlier this year, GE said in a press release.

With the delivery of the two 63 MVA transformers from the GE plant in Mönchengladbach, Germany, the first milestone of the project has now been completed.

The facility is scheduled to be handed over as a turnkey project to Stromnetz Hamburg GmbH in fall 2018.

The power transformers were transported to Hamburg by road, with the last stage of the transformer delivery in the city centre carried out at night in order not to interfere with the inner-city Christmas markets in Hamburg.
