Appalachian Power to upgrade transmission grid in Washington County

USA, Virginia: Appalachian Power has received approval from the Virginia State Corporation Commission for the first phase of its transmission grid upgrade plan in Washington County, Virginia.
The South Abingdon Extension project a new substation, with power transformers and associated electrical equipment, four miles of 138 kV transmission line, and improvements to three existing substations to improve power reliability for area customers, reports Bristol Herald Courier.
The first phase of the project will cost approximately $40 million.
Construction of the new substation is expected to begin later in November, while construction of the transmission line is slated to begin next spring and be completed by the end of 2018.
