2013-6-12

Amphenol Ltd will launch its latest Lightweight Aluminium Terrapin Connector Series at DVD 2013, the UK's foremost exhibition for equipment and support for military Land Equipment where the DE&S (Defence Equipment & Support) budget stood at £14Billion last year.

The new light weight aluminium Terrapin Connector Series is designed especially for harsh environment soldier communication systems. This new product development offers considerable weight savings of up to 50%. Typical applications include battlefield communications, handheld devices and data loggers, Ethernet, Power Over Ethernet (POE) and Ethernet Switch Devices, measuring and monitoring equipment, CCTV and ANPR as well as LED lighting.

Featuring a miniature size and footprint of less than 12mm, the new product is ideal for applications where space is critical and also where designers need to meet weight restrictions.  The shell design of the aluminium Terrapin Series also offers IP68 sealing in both mated and un-mated conditions which eliminates ingress of moisture and dust through the interface.  Further advantages are planforms up to 37-contacts, 2000 mating cycles, integral backshell  for screening and low-cost overmoulding as well as a unique mating mechanism which allows the same plug to mate with either break-away or locking receptacles.

Other key features of the product range include an exceptionally wide operational temperature range from -55°C to +125°C and 500hrs salt spray.

Also to be exhibited will be products from Amphenol Ltd’s key technology areas including Filters, Hermetics and High Power.  Many of the products on show including the Lightweight Terrapin Series will feature the latest Black Zinc Nickel RoHS Compliant plating finish.
