Ameren Missouri removing decades-old substation
2015-8-25
USA, Missouri: Ameren Missouri is removing a decades-old Cole Street Substation in St. Louis, one of the oldest substations in Missouri, as part of a $42 million revitalization of St. Louis downtown electrical system.
The substation electrical equipment is so old that the labels on the power transformers are dated 1949, while some of the underground lines that they fed go back to the 1904 World’s Fair, reports Fox 2 Now.
All of the equipment is being taken apart for scrap and the components will be recycled.
The new and smart facility that replaced the Cole Street Substation is a five times larger substation only a few blocks away, with features like self-diagnosis and self-monitoring.
