2018-1-25

The Afghan government has signed new contracts with private companies for the execution of two major power projects worth around $267 million, which make part of the $1.17 billion Central Asian transmission project CASA-1000.

The contracts include execution of works for the CASA-1000 power transmission line, as well as the construction and installation of a 500 kV substation, with power transformers and associated electrical equipment, in Arghandi, reports Khaama.

The substation contract was awarded to Techno-RGM JV and has a total value of around $32.2 million.

The CASA-1000 power transmission line will have a length of 765 kilometres with its final destination in Pakistan but the major portion will pass through Afghanistan.

The project will be funded by the Asian Development Bank.

The construction work of the substation will commence in January 2018 and will take two and half years to complete.
