ABB wins GIS substation order in New York

2017-4-26

Switzerland, Zurich: ABB has won an order from Bechtel Infrastructure and Power to provide a turnkey substation which will integrate electricity from for their power plant in the state of New York into the New York transmission grid.

The manufacturer will build a 345 kV gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) substation, with transformers and other requisite electrical equipment, aiming to enhance operational reliability, efficiency and safety while minimizing substation footprint and maintenance requirements, according to the company press release.

The substation will integrate electricity generated by the Cricket Valley Energy Station, a new combined cycle natural gas-fuelled power plant located in Dover. It will add over 1,100 MW of power and enhance the reliability of the New York transmission grid, benefitting about a million homes in the region.

This is the second such substation ABB is providing for Bechtel - the first being the 345 kV GIS substation for the Hummel Energy Center to be energized later this year.
