Zambia, Lusaka: Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation (ZESCO) shut down power supply in six towns yesterday to facilitate the installation of a new $4.5 million 125 MVA transformer in Kafue.
Zesco spokesperson Henry Kapata said the installation of the new transformer will ensure that the power utility company meets the ever growing electricity demand, reports Zambia Daily Mail.
“The installation of this transformer is very important because as it stands now, Kafue town has got one old 125 MVA transformer that has been catering for several towns in Southern and some parts of Western Province,” Mr. Kapata said.
The addition of the new 125 MVA transformer will enable Zesco to meet the growing power demand not only in Southern Province but parts of Western Province as well.
Two weeks ago, Zesco installed a new $4 million 125 MVA at Water Works substation to address power challenges in Libala, Chilenje, Chawama, Misis and Kamwala municipalities.
