Washington utility replaces aging transformers with customized units

2017-9-10

USA, Washington: U.S. power utility Avista is installing new-generation power transformers at its Kettle Falls plant in north-eastern Washington State.

Four dry-type transformers used inside the plant came into question during the preventive maintenance outage in 2015, which revealed that the insulation of the four 35-year-old units had already deteriorated to a concerning degree, reports Alterenergymag.

The utility decided to immediately replace two of the units with new custom-built transformers, and have two more replacement units custom-designed and manufactured.

The transformers are being supplied by ELSCO.
