Transformer for tidal electricity generation

 Japan’s IHI Corporation has built and completed initial tests of a 100 kW tidal power generator off Kuchinoshima island.

The tidal generator features an on-board transformer and it generated 30 kW during the testing which lasted one week.

IHI plans to commercialise the technology by 2020.
