Three-digit million euro HVDC order announced for offshore grid connection

 Siemens has won a high three-digit million euro order from TenneT TSO for a grid connection for offshore wind power plants in the German waters of the North Sea, the company announced in a press release.

As part of the order, Siemens will supply the entire technology for high-voltage direct-current transmission (HVDC) for the DolWin6 grid connection, using a new 320 kV gas-insulated switchgear that requires 95 percent less space than air-insulated solutions, according to the company.

The manufacturer will also supply all other components, including HVDC transformers and converters.

Siemens will also be responsible for the construction of the HVDC onshore station in Emden, East Frisia, where the company already built the onshore converter for the BorWin3 direct-current connection earlier this year.

The DolWin6 grid connection, spreading around 90 kilometres in length, will be able to connect multiple offshore wind turbines to the mainland. It is scheduled for commercial operation in 2023.
