2016-10-10

Switzerland, Zurich: Canadian utility Hydro-Québec (HQ) has placed orders with ABB worth over $85 million to upgrade its 800 kV air-insulated switchgear (AIS) substations and transmission grid with new power transformers, shunt reactors and circuit breakers.

As part of the project, ABB will design, manufacture and deliver 450 MVA autotransformers and 735 kV shunt reactors, as well as design, deliver and commission circuit breakers with polymeric insulators, the manufacturer said in a press release.

HQ operates one of the largest 800 kV networks in the world, a large part of which was originally developed in the 1960s and 70s.
