2017-7-7

South Africa, Johannesburg: South African Department of Energy will over the next three years invest $18 billion in the expansion of household access to electricity.

Approximately 90% of this amount will be allocated to national power utility, Eskom, reports ESI-Africa.

An additional $77 million has been put aside for 2019/20 to support the Integrated National Electrification Programme in financing grid and non-grid connections, and to build and upgrade substations and electricity networks.

The integrated national electrification programme also received a grant worth $1 billion to speed up the electrification of poor households over the next three years.
