Siemens receives first order for next generation traction transformers

2017-10-17

Siemens has received the first contract for the supply of its new traction transformers, type Tractronic Thinity, from Deutsche Bahn (German Railway).

The traction transformers will be used in 24 articulated trains based on the Mireo train platform, the company said in a statement.

According to the manufacturer, the new railway transformer is considerably lighter and more efficient than existing models with the same rating.

Starting in 2020, the 24 Mireo trains will operate regional rail services (Regionalbahn RB) on the Offenburg – Freiburg – Basel/Neuchâtel (Switzerland) line, and on Sundays in the Kaiserstuhl from Freiburg to Endingen/Breisach.
