Pakistan seeks Japan investment in $4B power distribution market

2018-3-5

Pakistan, Islamabad: Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Power Division, Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, has invited Japanese companies and investors to explore and invest in the $4 billion power distribution market in Pakistan, reports The Express Tribune.

According to Leghari, the government has bridged the demand and supply gap having started many new power generation projects, so the emphasis is now shifting towards high quality distribution of electricity to end-consumers.

With state-owned power distribution companies not being able to invest in the necessary equipment and infrastructure upgrades, the minister highlighted the opportunity for public-private partnership.

Japan recently cooperated with Pakistan in laying of Islamabad-Burhan power transmission line, and Japanese companies and investors are now showing interest in investing in the Pakistan’s power sector, reports The Express Tribune.
