PGCIL awards $37.3M substation and transformer contract

 India: Sterling and Wilson have been awarded a substation extension contract by Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) for the expansion of 400 kV and 132 kV substations under the North Eastern Region of India’s Strengthening Scheme – IV & VII, spread over five states.

Under the contract worth over $37 million, Sterling and Wilson will supply, install, test and commission extension works and equipment for 400 kV and 132 kV substations, including power transformers ranging from 50 MVA to 500 MVA and reactors ranging from 31.5 MVAr to 125 MVAr, reports IIFL.

The project will cover nine locations of North Eastern Region (Imphal, Silchar, Balipara, Bongaigaon, Misa, Kopili, Nirjuli, Agartala and Mokokchung) in five states (Manipur, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura and Nagaland).

Powergrid also intends to procure spare transformers for Nirjuli, Kopili and Silchar substations and spare reactors for Bongaigaon.

The project is expected to be commissioned within 18 months, with some of the priority substations to be commissioned much ahead of the schedule.
