New transformer station under construction in downtown Toronto
2015-4-2 Urban Toronto
Canada, Toronto: A new transformer station is being built below Bremner Boulevard in downtown Toronto to add capacity and boost power supply in the city centre.
Located a few blocks south of the existing Windsor transformer station, the new Clare R. Copeland transformer station will sit largely underground.
Construction on the project began in 2013, with many stages completed by now, including the testing of the large gas-insulated transformers, reports Urban Toronto.
Another milestone reached so far included launching of a TBM from 35 metres below Bremner Boulevard for the purpose of drilling 600 metres to connect the station with the existing power grid.
