Kazakhstan, Astana: Kazakhstan plans to build its first plant for the production of power transformers, a project that will be financed within the National Champions program, reports Azer News.

"In the framework of the National Champions program we plan to build the first plant in Kazakhstan for production of power transformers of the voltage class 220 kV and 500 in Shymkent [… which] will employ more than 400 workers," said Chairman of the Board of Alageum Electric JSC Yerkebulan Ilyasov.

In his statement, Ilyasov also stressed that the plant will produce new products with export capacities.

The Competitiveness Leaders - National Champions program was launched earlier this year in order to create a pool of companies which will initiate competitive, export-oriented production of non-primary sector by forming regional and global companies in Kazakhstan.

It is planned that in the next 3 to 5 years the project participants will launch local production of power transformers, drilling rigs, buses, drywall, and other building materials.
