New 100-acre solar farm planned in Cork

2017-8-30

Ireland, Cork: A Dublin-based company BNRG Neoen Holdings recently lodged a planning application for the development of a 13 MW ground-mounted solar farm on 100 acres of land in Bandon in County Cork.

The farm will have 40,000 solar panels in the townlands of Finnis and Mishells, and will also include an on-site substation, as well as up to eight inverter/transformer stations, reports The Southern Star.

While this application raised great concern in the community about the proposed conversion of the prime agricultural land to an industrial estate, a growing number of solar farm applications in Ireland reflects the country’s need to meet 2020 renewable energy targets.
