Kauai started year with island-wide power outage

 USA, Hawaii: The entire island of Kauai, Hawaii, started the new year without power due to an automatic shutdown of a large generator at the Kapaia Power Station.

The generator at the Kapaia Power Station near Lihue shut down after the control system detected a fault, which is still under investigation, reports The Garden Island.

Additional power outages affected parts of Lihue due to a transformer failure in the Lihue switchyard, so the transformer was taken offline.

Sections of Puhi was also additionally affected as the damaged equipment needed replacement.
