Johannesburg mayor replaces City Power board
2017-4-25
South Africa, Johannesburg: Johannesburg Mayor, Herman Mashaba, has made a decision to replace the entire board of City Power along with many of the city’s utilities non-executive directors.
This decision might be the first step in mayor’s intention to reincorporate service delivery bodies, which exist as stand-alone companies, under the city's jurisdiction, reports ESI-Africa.
City Power is one of these utilities and now it has a new chair. City Power’s former chair, Rev Frank Chikane, has since been replaced by Lael Bethlehem, an economic-development specialist.
According to the local media, Mashaba has also pulled in Douglas Gibson, formerly an MP.
The new board will be presented with a detailed report on utility’s operations thus far, including the legal investigation into the claims of corruption, which is currently under way.
