FPL enhances transformer damage surveillance after storms
2015-7-7 Bradenton Herald
USA, Florida: Florida Power & Light Co. (FPL) has introduced drone technology which will help the company survey damage to electrical equipment, including transformers, after storms and hurricanes, and the mobile command centre which can go into heavily damaged areas.
A Small Unmanned Aerial System is a drone the company will be able to use for damage surveillance after storms or hurricanes instead of ground crews or helicopters, which is more costly than using a $3,000 drone, reports Bradenton Herald.
The mobile command centre will help the company ease communication with the crews and quicken response times, allowing the crews restoring transformers to access heavily damaged areas more quickly.
