Duke Energy donates transformer to college electric program

2016-1-31

USA, North Carolina: Duke Energy gifted a single-phase transformer to Richmond Community College (RCC) specialized electric program (EUSRT), and had it delivered and installed in the campus substation.

The donated 115 kV power transformer is operable, and EUSRT students will be able to run tests and perform maintenance on the unit, reports Daily Journal.

“This gives our students more equipment for hands-on training in the substation and will allow multiple groups of students to work on separate transformers,” said Steve Lampley, instructor for the electric utility substation and relay technology program.

The college’s EUSRT program prepares students for lifelong careers in the electric utility industry and other industries that rely on complex control systems.
