Arizona-Texas cross-border project gets state approval

2017-12-19

USA, Arizona: Arizona state regulators have approved a joint proposal by UniSource Energy Services and a Texas-based Hunt Power for the construction of a cross-border electricity transmission project with a hub in Nogales, and an upgrade of an existing transmission line that serves Santa Cruz County.

The Nogales Interconnection Project would involve building a new substation on the west side of Nogales, which would connect with Mexico’s state-owned grid through a two-mile transmission line, reports Nogales International.

If all approvals are received, the estimated $80 million project will be completed by the end of 2019.
