ABB wins $30M order to support integration of offshore wind energy

 ABB has won a $30 million order from ScottishPower Renewables to supply two STATCOMs that will smooth out the voltage fluctuations that are an inherent feature of intermittent wind energy.

Two compact and lightweight autotransformers will be incorporated in the STATCOM system, the manufacturer said in a press statement.

According to the manufacturer, they will increase power transfer capability, improve power quality and enhance grid stability, enabling an efficient and reliable power supplies for millions of consumers.
