 ABB Electrification’s Amina Hamidi awarded CTO of the Year 2019

The European trade body for technology industries, Orgalim, last night awarded Amina Hamidi the Chief Technology Officer of the Year award. The award recognizes leadership in driving European growth and prosperity through technology and innovation.

Amina Hamidi leads more than 2,500 scientists and engineers around the globe to develop disruptive technologies in the field of electrification. Working closely with customers, suppliers, start-ups and universities her teams ensure cutting-edge solutions are brought to market quickly.

Speaking about the award, Amina Hamidi said: “This is great recognition of ABB’s work in meeting the demands brought about by urbanization, digitization and a growing dependence on electrification. Technology really holds the key to improving how we can all live, work, and play more responsibly for the environment, underpinning thriving economies. I am delighted to accept this award and dedicate it to all the unsung heroes tirelessly making a positive difference each day through innovation and technology.”

The accolade recognizes leadership in driving European growth and prosperity through technology and innovation, and is awarded by Orgalim – Europe’s Technology Industries, the European Industrial Research Management Association (EIRMA) and innovation consultants Spinverse. An international jury of experts selected six finalists from nominations submitted from all over Europe, before ultimately choosing winners in two categories: Large Enterprises and Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs).

Amina Hamidi joined ABB in 1998 as a Research Scientist and Project Manager and has held a number of positions with increasing responsibility both in R&D and on the business side up until August 2017, when she was appointed Chief Technology Officer for the Electrification business of ABB. She now leads a team of scientists and engineers focusing on both customer needs-driven and technology disruption-oriented R&D. She has a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the French National Research Institute for Transportation Systems (INRETS).
