454-tonne transformer moved across county in NW Arkansas

USA, Arkansas: Southwestern Electric Power Company has begun transport of a 454-tonne power transformer across Washington County in Northwest Arkansas to a substation southeast of Siloam Springs.

The transport being used in the process is 91-metre long and has 30 axles, according to the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department. Fully loaded, the transport is nearly five metres high and six metres wide, reports NWA.

One truck will be in front pulling the load, and two will be behind pushing.

The transport will not exceed 24 kilometres per hour

Officials will only move the transformer between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said it could take two days to move.
