$50M upgrades planned by Connecticut power distributor

 USA, Connecticut: United Illuminating, a regional electric distribution company based in Orange, Connecticut, has proposed four storm resiliency projects, valued at $50 million, following widespread outages resulting from storms in 2011 and 2012.

The most expensive project will be relocation of the utility's Pequonnock Substation, estimated to cost $31 million, which will also include relocating thesubstation’s distribution equipment to higher ground, according to the statement cited by Utility Dive.  

Also, more than $6 million will be allocated to the upgrade of lower-voltage lines, transformers and related equipment, and to remove step-down banks that link them with the surrounding higher-voltage grid.
