New transformer for Pennsylvania substation

2021-8-20 WGAL

PPL Electric Utilities Corporation has transported a large transformer to a substation in Pennsylvania.

The equipment made its way from the railyard in Columbia to the West Hempfield substation on Stone House Lane.
The transformer stood at over 19 ft tall and 12 feet wide, and travelled between 3mph and 6mph.
The equipment transforms electricity that comes from a generation plant into a lower voltage that can be transmitted to distribution stations.
PPL said investments like the new transformer are part of the company’s ongoing commitment to deliver safe, reliable and affordable electricity.
