New Zealand utility to trial 10 green transformers at a dairy plant
2017-10-19
New Zealand, South Canterbury: A New Zealand electric utility company Alpine Energy will trial 10 new, environmentally-friendly transformers to be installed at Fonterra's dairy plant in Clandeboye in South Canterbury.
The green transformers use vegetable oil as an insulating medium and are the first of their kind to be used in South Canterbury, reports Stuff.co.nz.
Network delivery manager John Dillon said Alpine was increasing Fonterra's power supply when Fonterra and Aurecon engineers requested the environmentally-friendly transformers.
The transformers were manufactured by ETEL Transformers Ltd, a company from Auckland.
If the trial was successful, all of Alpine Energy's mineral oil transformers would potentially be replaced by vegetable oil ones.
