Aquidneck Island to receive a $93M power system revamp

 USA, Rhode Island: The U.S. National Grid plans to overhaul the power system on the Aquidneck Island investing $93 million in an improvement plan to construct two new substations with five power transformers, and reconfigure two high-voltage transmission lines.

The scope of the project includes building of a new Jepson substation in Middletown with two power transformers supplying six 13.8 kV feeders and two more transformers supplying three 23 kV supply lines, reports Newport Patch.

A new 69/13.8 kV Newport substation will be built with a single power transformer supplying four 13.8 kV feeders.

Both substations will have remote operation capabilities.

In the course of the work on the project, which is expected to finish in 2020, five substations on the island will be deconstructed.
