ABB providing complete substation solution to Vattenfall’s wind project

 Switzerland, Zurich:  ABB is supplying two new 400 kV substations for the Pen y Cymoedd wind energy project, being developed in south Wales by Vattenfall.

As part of the overall substation solution for this project, ABB is supplying power transformers, switchgear, IEC 61850 compliant substation automation, and control and protection equipment, the manufacturer said in a statement.

The company is also providing the grid connection and the related electrical transmission infrastructure, and a secure wireless communications system.

The full 76-turbine development is due for completion later this year and will be the highest capacity onshore wind farm in England and Wales, delivering up to 228 MW.
