Product Overview
High VoltageSurge Arrester
Polymer Housed Metal Oxide Surge Arrester
A Surge Arrester is an essential protective device designed to protect electrical equipment from overvoltage caused by lightning strikes and switching operations. It helps safeguard transformers, switchgear, substations, transmission lines, and power distribution systems by limiting surge voltage and safely discharging surge current to ground.
Our surge arresters feature reliable electrical performance, durable insulation materials, and a compact design suitable for a wide range of power system applications.
Surge Arrester Overview
Reliable Overvoltage Protection for Power Systems
The Surge Arrester is designed to provide reliable protection against transient overvoltages in electrical power systems. Using advanced metal oxide varistor (MOV) technology, it responds rapidly to voltage surges and limits overvoltage to help protect connected electrical equipment.
Available in polymer-housed and other configurations, surge arresters can be used in medium-voltage and high-voltage applications, depending on the selected model and electrical ratings.
The polymer housing offers lightweight construction, good insulation performance, and resistance to outdoor environmental conditions. The gapless metal oxide design provides fast response and reliable overvoltage protection with minimal routine maintenance when properly selected and installed.
Designed for power generation, transmission, and distribution systems, the Surge Arrester helps improve equipment protection and overall power system reliability.

Working Principle of an Surge Arrester
The Surge Arrester uses nonlinear metal oxide varistor elements to control transient overvoltages.
Under normal operating voltage, the arrester presents high resistance and allows the electrical system to operate normally. When a lightning-induced or switching-induced voltage surge occurs, the arrester’s resistance decreases rapidly, providing a path for surge current to discharge to ground and limiting the voltage across protected equipment.
After the surge passes, the arrester returns to its high-resistance operating state.
